January always brings a fresh wave of LEGO® releases, and the Minifigures Series 28 lineup has arrived. My own collection is in transition right now—I’ve been downsizing, selling off parts of my Pile of Shame, and figuring out what to keep and what to let go. But I ordered a few cases of Series 28 anyway: one to keep, and the rest to make available through the True North Bricks shop for anyone hunting the full set without the usual scramble.
Series 28 leans heavily into animal costumes, which isn’t usually my thing. I prefer a mix of characters, but even so, there’s plenty here to appreciate. I’ve ranked the figures from least to most favorite, adding my thoughts along the way.

The Packaging
Nothing revolutionary here—boxes of Minifigures Series 28 contain three full sets of 12 figures each, for a total of 36 minifigs per box. The blind boxes themselves are standard LEGO fare, which I’ll be honest: I still think the packaging is kind of a pain. There’s no fun in “feeling” the figure before buying, and blindly opening them is always a gamble. I personally opened all of mine, repackaged the figures individually, and sorted them for shipping. This way, collectors know exactly what they’re getting, and it’s cheaper to send them out.

12. Fluffy Cat Costume
A classic in white! This cat costume doesn’t break new ground—it’s a simple, snowy-white suit with a ball of yarn. No extra printing, just a solid, recognizable design. Not my favorite, but definitely cute if you like cat figures.

11. Dog Costume
The dalmatian is cheerful and instantly recognizable, complete with a printed frisbee. It may not top previous dog-themed figures, like the Series 21 pug, but it’s a nice addition for dog fans.

10. Cute Bunny Costume
The new mask element gives this bunny its own personality, even if we’ve seen similar Easter-inspired designs before. The tiny basket and egg are charming and ready for seasonal displays.

9. Peacock Costume
Colorful and vibrant, the peacock comes with a sunflower accessory. It’s a quirky combination, but somehow it works—playful, eye-catching, and full of character.

8. Dolphin Costume
This dolphin is smooth and sleek, complete with a clamshell and jewel. I can’t help thinking it would’ve been hilarious with a mermaid tail element, but it still makes for a fun addition to any aquatic scene.

7. Parrot Costume
Bright, tropical, and cheeky, the parrot costume includes a printed snack box. It might not be my personal favorite, but it’s lively, fun, and stands out on a display shelf.

6. Goldfish Costume
The goldfish’s mask is adorable, and the little fish food brick fits the theme perfectly. Small, simple, but surprisingly expressive.

5. Lion Costume
The lion is proud and bold, with a mask that captures the feline’s essence nicely. Accessories are minimal, but this figure has a confident presence that doesn’t really require them.

4. Crocodile Costume
The crocodile adds variety to the animal lineup. The lifesaver accessory is whimsical, and the overall figure has a playful, cheeky vibe that works well in the series.

3. Koala Costume
Cute and original, the koala mask and printed torso convey charm. It comes with a plant and a boomerang, a whimsical touch nodding to Australia. Quirky, but it works.

2. Monkey Costume
Instantly fun and mischievous, this monkey figure brings back memories of classic LEGO animals from decades past. Simple, playful, and full of personality.

1. Frog Costume
The frog is my personal favorite—bright, cheerful, and utterly adorable. The soap accessory is hilariously random, but it adds to the figure’s charm. Definitely the star of the series in my eyes.

Minifigures Series 28 may not be my all-time favourite (that honour still goes to D&D) but it’s a playful, whimsical collection that delivers personality and charm in every figure. Whether you’re collecting for fun, display, or just love hunting down animal costumes, there’s something here to make you smile.
You can pick up your own set in the True North Bricks shop while supplies last—because who doesn’t want a little extra cuteness in their collection?
Until next time,
—Tom
