June 1 was another huge release day with loads of great sets hitting store shelves. However, the promotions were not that great in my opinion. The Pirate Ship Playground (40589) came with purchases over $140 CAD, and that’s about it. The set appeals to me about as much as a prostate exam. I know many AFOLs flocked to the LEGO® Store in order to get choice sets. Of course, there’s serious FOMO involved as you never know which sets will go on back order, if any. I know I was a bit nervous about that. But, I decided not to buy on June 1. Supposedly, the Pirate Ship Playground offer expired on June 3, and I wanted to see what came out afterwards. Well, the June 2023 LEGO® Store promotions are now out for this first part of the month. I’m happy I waited… mostly.
The LEGO® Store extended the Pirate Ship Playground offer.
Firstly, the Pirate Ship Playground is back. I am guessing the offer did not go as well as anticipated and the LEGO® Group extended the run until June 18. Of course, that is pure speculation. But the offer is a little lack luster in my opinion. Sure, it evokes mild nostalgia with the Pirates connection… but a pure Pirates set would have done WAY better. I am no longer building a LEGO® city, so I have no use for a little playground. Truthfully, I probably would not have given up space in my city for this even when I was building one. And don’t get me started on the stumpy kid minifigs… Ultimately, this is not the reason I am happy I waited. Of course, I’ll take this for spare parts when I make my purchase, who doesn’t want free LEGO®? But I’m not excited about it.
The deal is a bit sweeter with the addition of the Summer Fun VIP Add-On pack (40607). Again, I am not terribly excited about this offer. However, it looks like it comes with some interesting pieces. As an extra parts pack in addition to the playground, I’m happier to spend money. This one comes with purchases over $65 CAD. So, if you’re already spending over $140 CAD (which is easy this time of year), you’ll get both promotions. I know I am more willing to spend if I get more stuff free. But again, this is not the reason I am happy I waited before making any summer 2023 purchases.
Double VIP points is coming back!
Double VIP Points is what’s really got me excited about the June 2023 LEGO® Store promotions. The LEGO® Group confirmed the event from June 9 – 13, 2023. With Pac-Man, Ninjago City Markets, and Disney Villain Icons already on the market (the latter on back order), I’m sure a few of you are kicking yourselves at this moment… Luckily, the Batcave hits store shelves June 5 for VIPs, so you can plan that purchase accordingly.
While I am not crazy about the GWPs, I will jump at double VIP points in addition to the GWPs. I have a number of sets on my wish list. However, I will not buy them all now. It’s always good to have a few pricier wish list items in your shopping cart for another day. If a good GWP comes out, I want to have reason to get it. Rumor has it that Majisto from the 1993 Castle sets returns this summer… We all know I am getting that. Did you make all your June purchases already? Will you shop for double VIP points? What will you get? Let me know your plans in the comments below or reach out on social media.
Until next time,
