LEGO® Mars Rover Perseverance Coming Soon!

I love LEGO® space and science themed sets. I have already acquired and reviewed such wonderful builds as the NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander, the NASA Apollo Saturn V Rocket, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. A new collaboration between the LEGO® Group and NASA is now on the horizon. Interestingly, this one arrives from the Technic theme. In June 2023, you’ll be able to get your hands on the LEGO® Mars Rover Perseverance. This looks like it will be a really fun build and photography session.

From the press release…

Just two years ago, Perseverance landed on Mars and started its epic journey to seek signs of ancient life and collect samples from the mysterious red planet. This new LEGO Technic model of the rover allows builders aged 10+ to understand the awesome feats of engineering that make this vehicle so adept to Martian exploration and learn about how the rover’s features and functions work.

The LEGO Technic model features 360° steering and a movable arm, plus fully articulated suspension that lets the rover travel across uneven surfaces on all 6 wheels. And just like its real-life counterpart, the LEGO Technic model is joined by a replica mission companion Ingenuity Helicopter.

The set supposedly also includes an augmented reality component through the Technic AR app. Since the model is not motorized, this content will be purely educational. Supposedly, you’ll be able to get Martian weather conditions among other things. I don’t care much for the LEGO® Group’s attempts at AR, but I am pretty excited about this set from a space exploration/nerdy standpoint. What do you think? Let me know in the comments or reach out on social media.

Until next time,

-Tom
