Today is a big day for Canada. It is our 150th celebration. In addition to taking it easy and building LEGO on this holiday, I took some time to reflect on what I like about Canada. I wrote it out as a poem, and included some LEGO pictures!
Pride in the Maple Leaf
I think it is pretty nifty
That Canada is one fifty.
Let us take a pause that is brief,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
Around the globe we’re known to say
Hello, goodbye, please, thanks, and eh?
So, stitch that pack with flag motif,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
We have roll-up rims and poutine,
Maple syrup and fine cuisine.
Have a meal of triple-A beef,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
We sing songs with hand in pocket,
Stand on mama’s porch and rock it.
Music to make you go undeaf,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
We also have many fables,
From Life of Pi to Green Gables.
Read great stories of joy and grief,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
The Canadarm was a big win,
As were stem cells and insulin.
Learn of science beyond belief,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
Endless forests, prairies, and lakes,
The Northern Lights, your breath it takes.
Escape to nature and relief,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
Let’s not forget those from before,
The Indigenous and their lore.
Repair our bonds, relieve their grief,
And be proud of the maple leaf.
As I sign off, and say goodbye,
I ask that you wave your flag high.
Make the world stare in disbelief,
At our pride in the maple leaf.
