Summary Review
VALUE: 100%
When broken down to the brick level, each piece in this kit costs $0.08. Despite the overall price tag of Assembly square, that is a value per brick that is very hard to beat.
BUILD: 92%
Over all, the exterior of this set is amazing. I really like the central square with the fountain. Given that this is the 10th Anniversary edition of the Creator modular buildings, each of the structures in this set has design references to all of the previous sets before it. Overall, that makes it fit well in a town built of the modular buildings.
- The café building interior is really nice on the top and bottom floors. The music store in the middle is okay, but lacking details. I gave this building 90%.
- The flower shop building was my least favorite from the interior. The flower shop and photo studio both seem a little empty, and I would have liked some more substance in both. I gave this building 85%.
- The bakery building was the best one in my opinion. Each floor came stocked with fun little details, and I would not change a thing. I gave it 100%.
MINIFIGURES: 44%
Like the modular buildings that came before it, the Minifigs you get in this set are really generic. They all have the classic smiley face, and most have no leg printing. My favorite was the barista for the coffee shop. She had the most detail, and I really like that she matches baristas that have come before her in other sets of different themes. The Minifigures in this set earned a combined design score of 68%. The brick-to-Minifigure ratio was really poor in Assembly Square (500:1), which tends to be the case with these large Creator sets. That sadly earned it a ratio score of 20%.
ENTERTAINMENT: 98%
This set provides you with hours of build time. For me, it worked out to a cost of $0.54 per minute, which is amazing and earned a full 100%. In terms of my enjoyment of this set, I really do like it. From the exterior, I will not be changing anything when I incorporate it into my LEGO city. From the inside, I will probably make a few minor changes and alter the rooms that I did not like quite as much. Given that changes will be small, I gave Assembly Square 95% for enjoyment.
Overall: 84%
This is a great set, and I highly recommend it. Save those pennies and buy it during the next Double VIP Points event if you have not already. That way you get a great set, and will probably get another free smaller one with your points on your next visit to the LEGO Store. While the set does cost a lot, you are buying LEGO bricks in bulk, so the value is actually really good. You also get a lot of build time for the price, which is excellent. The Minifigures are nothing special, but every city needs fillers.

I’ve been on the fence about this one for a while. It has a lot of good parts for my Lego projects, but that’s still a lot of money to spend all at once. If I do decide to get it, I think I’ll take your advice and wait for a double VIP points event.
I only buy big sets like this when Double VIP Points rolls around. And, like I said in the review, you will rack up enough points to get a decent set for free. When I bought Assembly Square, I racked up $30 worth of points. Adding $10 more to my purchase brought me up to $35.
