I was about 11 years old when the original Jurassic Park film hit theatres. It was the first “scary” movie I had ever gone to see. I remember jumping out of my seat when Lex almost fell through the ceiling grate and the raptor jumped up to try and get her. I begged my parents for the VHS when it came out, and finally got it for Christmas. I don’t even know how many times I have watched that film over the years. It was my all time favorite movie growing up. I loved it so much as a kid that it was even the first real novel that I read. I have even created lessons based on Jurassic Park to relate science concepts to my students.
The subsequent films that have come out over the years have been mediocre at best. I still go see them, and I still own them simply because I love dinosaurs and the first movie meant so much to me. But, none of them have captured the magic of the original Jurassic Park. As a result, my hopes are not very high for the upcoming fifth installment.
So, what does Jurassic Park have to do with LEGO? Well, as you probably guessed from the pictures, when Jurassic World was released in 2015, it was developed into a LEGO theme. The dinosaurs were all repaints of the moulds created for the 2012 Dino theme, with the exception of the Indominus rex. All the same, Jurassic World is one of my favorite themes. I am thrilled to have LEGO dinosaurs. The theme contained many characters from the movie, the aforementioned Indominus rex, the Tyrannosaurus rex, velociraptors, a dilophosaurus, and a pteranodon (which was not actually a dinosaur). There was only one wave of sets, and it has sadly now been retired. Hope remains that with another sequel in the works, there will be more sets on the horizon.
I have done a large number of posts over the last year surrounding Jurassic World because I loved the LEGO sets so much. If you are reading this on my actual blog site, you can use the search feature in the right hand menu to look for all things “Jurassic”. I even recreated the movie poster using LEGO, and redid a sequence from the movie as a LEGO comic book (click here to read it). The Jurassic World LEGO dinosaurs have even been showcased in my weekly free colouring pages (click here to get them).
I would like to see more LEGO based on some of the other movies in the franchise. While the movies were not always stellar, it would be awesome to have more dinosaurs from them, like the brachiosaurus, stegosaurus, and spinosaurus. Would you be interested in more LEGO Jurassic Park/World sets? If so, what set, and what dinosaurs should be included? I wouldn’t mind the original visitors’ centre from the first movie (I guess it would come with another T. rex and some raptors), or a spinosaurus plane crash…

Have you posted about your Jurassic Park lesson plans before?
I have not… I guess I don’t post much about work as it doesn’t normally go with my theme. I have only started to teach with LEGO this year.
It’s incredible to me that the first Jurassic Park movie still looks so good. Usually CGI movies really show their age after a few years, but that one still looks amazing. I’d love to see some Lego sets based on the original movie: the visitor’s center would make a great set, and there were plenty of jeeps and helicopters to turn into smaller sets.
I didn’t like the film, either. But maybe I would enjoy a LEGO-Jurassic Park film 😀

I still haven’t seen any Jurassic Park movie. I skipped the original because I didn’t like the book. But I’ve been told the movie is better.
The movie is good, but the book is better… So if you didn’t like the book, Jurassic Park might not be for you, sadly.
Well then, Jurassic Park was my “J” choice for the day, for similar reasons. Jurassic Park Legos just made it on my Christmas list, think I may have to send a tweet to Santa right now to let him know.
They look great! I didn’t even know about this set. Very neat.
To be honest I haven’t seen Jurassic World, but like you I adored the original movie as a kid (we’re about the same age) and the novel even more so.
That being said, the LEGO Jurassic World cartoon is pretty cool. It basically condenses the plot of the movie down to 20-odd minutes, plus as you mentioned a few days ago it prominently features Hot Dog Man.
My son is super into Lego and his best friend is super into dinosaurs. Some Lego Jurassic Park sets might be just the thing for them to enjoy together. 🙂

Long shots, but the sick triceratops scene from the first one and the stegosaurus stampede from the second would be cool, just to get those two dinosaurs.
Maybe a mini set featuring the jeep ride where they spot the brachiosaurus for the first time.
