One Year Already?!?!?

Well, isn’t that something, True North Bricks is one year old! This is also my 200th post. Thanks to everyone who has found their way to my little corner of the web and has deemed it worthy of a return or follow. At the time I am writing this, across all of my social media accounts (here on WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube), 780 of you have followed me in one way or another. I am really flattered. This blog started out as, and remains, a hobby for me. I am really happy so many others have found enjoyment in it as well. To celebrate my big one year, I thought I would re-share my top 10 photos posted on Instagram this year as picked by all of you. They are in order from lowest number of likes to the highest.

10. A Corner of LEGO  Town

dsc_2715web

This shot shows one corner of my growing LEGO city. I posted this on February 17, 2017 upon completion of my latest custom project (click here to read about it). There wasn’t much artistic process involved in this photo, I just wanted to show readers how my shopping promenade would fit into the city.

09. Minifig at Uni Qlo

DSC_0014WEB

This photo was taken on my recent trip to New York City and posted on March 14, 2017. It was taken at Uni Qlo’s flagship store. I really wanted to get one of the t-shirts from their LEGO collection, and I brought my Minifigure along for a photo-op. He was excited too.

08. Batman V Superman

bvsbatmanposter

This was one of my LEGO-fied projects in which I recreated one of the Batman V Superman posters using a Batman Minifigure. I tried to stay as true as possible to the original. It was posted on October 5, 2016.

07. Zen Geisha

This next photo was also taken on my recent New York trip. We attended Japan Week at Grand Central Terminal, and I brought my Geisha Minifig to photograph with the Zen garden I had read would be there. The photo was entered into the Japan Week contest, but sadly did not win. I am glad so many of you liked it though! It was posted on March 10, 2017.

06. Gossip Coffee Crew

DSC_0040WEB

Another shot from my New York trip. This one was taken at a great little coffee shop (Gossip Coffee) in Astoria where we had our morning brew a couple of times. The coffee was so good that it had to be included in a photo for my blog somehow. It was posted on March 15, 2017.

05. Buzz Lightyear

Buzz

I loved the Toy Story movies, and Buzz was my favorite character. Having him in LEGO form from the Disney Minifigures series is just awesome. This photo was taken for my first LEGO Top 10 list (click here to read it or here to watch it on YouTube). I was aiming for a super white background for all the shots used in the video, kind of reminiscent of the old GAP commercials. It was posted on March 2, 2017.

04. Who You Gonna Call?

posterweb

This one is another of my LEGO-fied projects. In this case, I recreated the 2016 Ghostbusters movie poster using the Ecto 1 & 2 set made by LEGO. Again, I tried to stay pretty faithful to the original. It was posted on February 22, 2017.

03. Ghostbusters!

dsc_2378web

A second one of my Ghostbusters shots also made the final cut for this list. This one was actually taken in December of last year when I got the set for Christmas. I was just playing around with different shots, camera settings, and Minifigure poses. I guess I was going for a magazine cover sort of look. Despite being taken in December 2016, I sat on it until February 21, 2017.

02. Lady Liberty

StatueofLiberty3

Another shot from my New York trip has made the list. I bought the Lady Liberty Minifigure at the LEGO Store in Rockefeller Center, she came as part of a magnet. I wanted to get a nice photo of her somewhere in the city, and what better place than with the actual Statue of Liberty in the background? I posted this one on March 16, 2017.

01. Batman Returns

batmanreturnsposterweb

This was also a LEGO-fied project. It actually took me a long time to complete. I started it months ago, but I was missing the Penguin Minifigure that I needed to complete it. I knew that the LEGO Batman Movie would have a Penguin very reminiscent of the one from Batman Returns, so I sat on the project for quite some time until I could get the Minifig I was missing. I finally posted the finished image on March 9, 2017.

Honorable Mention….

IMGP0507WEB

A special mention must be made for a shot that I called “Clever Girl”. I was inspired by a classic scene from the original Jurassic Park film, and recreated using LEGO Jurassic World figs. While the shot did not garner many likes on my own Instagram page, it was reposted by the Brick Network on their Instagram account. Through them it gathered an astonishing 2,478 likes, which is more than all the likes of all the other pictures on this page combined. So, thanks to the Brick Network! It was posted on August 16, 2016.

Most of the photos on this list were pretty recent shots. I imagine this list is a little skewed towards newer pictures simply because I have more followers now than when I began. But, it does show me that you all have enjoyed my LEGO-fied works and vacation shots the most. While I can’t go on vacation more for financial reasons (though I would certainly love to), I will continue to produce the LEGO-fied images. I also promise that next time I can afford a holiday, the Minifigures will come too! I will also start posting more shots from my city since there was some interest in the first one.

Thanks again for an amazing first year. The support means a lot!

Until next time,

-T.N.B.
